Ever since seeing Ichika Nito play his signature Talman I fell in love with this quirky Ibanez offset. I think it was the metal stip with the knobs on it that fully won me over.
I found it on FB marketplace and went on about a 2 hour round trip to pick it up. It came with the scratches on the back but that wasn't the worst of it. The previous owner had replace the stock pickups with a Strat pickup in the neck and a dual rail pickup in the bridge. Definitely not my vibe so pulled them out and replaced them with a set of Fender telecaster pickups from my other kit build. I had to order a new pick guard from Europe as the Strat pickup meant the original pick guard was modified. I never loved the stark white of the pickguardand hope to replace it with more of an aged white one someday.
After over a year of failing to find a parchment pickguard online to purchase I decided to make my own. I built a small router table, made a ply wood template of the pickguard and turn a black sheet of 3 ply parchment pickguard material into what I’ve been wanting since I bought it. Funny how much effort went into such a subtle (but important) change.
The rosewood fretboard is so comfortable to play on and the straight string angle to the headstock keeps it in tune wonderfully.
